Hollow grinding goes back to the era when most home grinders were six inch (150mm) diameter. At that smaller diameter, the hollow is much more pronounced. This facilitates "two point" grinding. In my opinion, one can essentially ignore the hollow of a 250mm Tormek wheel. (By visual comparison, I also find little difference between the 200 and ...
If I hold a knife edge to the most acute angle with a hollow grind leading up to the cutting edge, you are telling me that it would be stronger than the same edge when flat ground. Measure the edge angle from anywhere you want. There is still a "hollow grind" which means the same as a void of metal.

A hollow grind is a way to grind your blade so that the bevels curve inward (concave) to meet at a point. This makes for an extremely sharp knife, but very fragile edge at the same time. It's a difficult grind to achieve, even with …
A hollow grind is also economic of the steel. Minimal blade length is removed since the steel is wasted from the hollow - that is "inside out". As I shall demonstrate, there is the ability to create the ultimate micro bevel. For the first time in some years I have reorganised my grinding/sharpening system.
The hollow grind calculator is a good point to start so you rougly know what grind height you should have for a given stock thickness and wheel size. Another lesson learnt by mistake, if starting with a low grit belt, leave more on the edge then you planned for to account for the difference of belt thickness in comparison to higher grit belts.
Hey everyone. I intend to do a lot of hollow grinding and was researching the height of the grinds based on the diameter of the wheel and thickness of the stock. I have come across a few charts/tables showing different heights for the same parameters. Using this ...

I'm a big fan of hollow grinds on all my chisels and plane blades. I picked this up from Krenov's book, "The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking" a LONG time ago. I use a cheap 6" Delta high speed, (yes high speed), grinder with a 60 grit white wheel because the hollow is pretty deep. Just go lightly and have a can of water to dip the edge in.

This produces a hollow grind which is much less hollow than smaller diameter wheels. I do believe that much of today's thinking about hollow grinding is leftover from the small diameter dry grinding days decades ago. It does not reflect larger diameter Tormek grinding.
See, in Hollow Knight, there are three ways of getting Geo. You can find and brake geo caches, you can sell relics, or you can fight enemies. And since geo caches and relics are both one time deals, that means the only way to "farm" is beating enemies. And in case you haven't heard, enemies in Hollow Knight are tough.
The hollow grinding done first is not a necessity. It just removes the majority of material, making it 10 times easier, with much less heat when doing the flats, than if I were to start without the hollow grinding. Making any sense ? Here's a few pics of tapered tangs, from the side and from the top.
