Driving down this scenic New England road, you will find beautiful architecturally significant homes where mill owners and mill workers lived.

In 1898 the village was renamed Gleasondale in honor of Gleason and Dale, and the brick mill building became known as Gleasondale Mills.

While I no longer count the pieces of trash recovered while paddling, I did however make it a point in 2021 to count "nip" bottles. There were 1,765 of them and of those 1,203 were recovered from one eight mile stretch of the Nashua River between Route 117 in Lancaster, MA and Ayer's Ice House Dam.

Gleasondale (a.k.a. Randall's Mill and Rock Bottom) Gleasondale has a long and illustrious history as a major milling center in New England. The first mill and dam - for grist and lumber - in what is now Gleasondale was built by Ebenezer Graves prior to 1750. The dam was located 80 to 100 feet downstream from the current dam.
Last week's column left off with Stow having gained land from Sudbury and given up land to Harvard and Shirley. After the Shirley subtraction, Stow was contained within seemingly sensible boundaries (no more Stow Leg), but would subsequently lose land and people to Boxborough, Hudson and Maynard.
Today, Gleasondale is home to a variety of uses, including agriculture, outdoor recreation, housing, and light industry. At the center of the village are two mill buildings, which have housed Gleasondale's industrial operations for generations.Executive Summary | Gleasondale School Lot Improvement Plan . Overview .

The Board of Selectmen and a packed meeting room heard a presentation from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Tuesday night about impending plans to partially close one lane of the Gleasondale Bridge for a period of years.

Most of the housing dates back to the same time period as the Mill, with a few homes even older.
